BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 25th April 2024)- In a bid to address public concerns over the seeming wastage of water during testing processes in Cayon, it has clarified that the water being pumped is not lost, but instead being recycled for sustainable usage.
“Right now, the water is coming and going this way. This is what you call an air valve to allow air to come out of the system. This is our meter that is doing the flow rate right now, it is about 206 average US gallons per minute,” explained Minister responsible for Water Services Konris Maynard, providing insight into the testing process.
He made the disclosure during an on-site visit to the newlybuilt well on Wednesday 24th April 2024 during the testing process being done by Bedrock Exploration Development Technologies St. Kitts Ltd (BEAD), as captured via a video presentation publicised on the official Facebook page of the St.
Kitts and Nevis Information Service. “It’s been pumping at this for some time and then we spoke about the step-up test, they are going to step it up and then it goes out and most of it, majority of it will be recycled back into the ground but this is a necessary step, so no alarm, no concerns, this is part of the process,” Maynard further clarified.
“When this is finished and we get back the tests and they are great, then this will then turn to be connected to our line. This is our line to go to our storage here,” he continued, emphasizing the importance of the testing phase.
The Water Services Minister highlighted, “…Water Services Department has done their part and is ready for connection. So this is a good day. This is all part of the process. I know sometimes these things seem like they take a lot of time but it is important that we follow all procedures, that we do not rush to come to any conclusion because when we are finished with this, we want it to be done and dusted to assist with the perennial problems that we have had with water shortages in this area and around the country, and we want it to last for many, many years.” Meanwhile, Water Engineer Cromwell Williams, Manager of the St.
Kitts Water Services Department shared: “During this pump test, we will periodically, maybe every hour, every couple of hours, be taking samples and those samples will be tested to make sure that the quality continuously meets whatever the standard is when we use the WHO standard.” He added: “So it is important to note that this is a quantity test but at the same time, we will be taking samples to monitor the quality of the water and of course, as we have assured the persons in the public, the Water Services Department will never put water in our system that does not meet the quality standard, the WHO quality standard, our guidelines.” Front Page Photo: Image showing water flowing during the ongoing series of testing in Cayon on Wednesday 24th April 2024 (SKNIS Photo)
