BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 10th February 2022) — The controversial Las Lap Bar matter involving Tourism Minister Lindsay Grant and police officers who were enforcing COVID-19 protocols has been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Valston Graham. Commissioner of Police (COP) Hilroy Brandy confirmed at the Prime Minister’s press conference on Thursday 10th February 2022 that the file had been submitted to the DPP. “The Police is responsible to maintain law and order, and as you are aware, we’re in a pandemic and there is the COVID-19 Act that the police has been asked to enforce. On the 8th of January 2022, three officers visited the Las Lap Bar. As a result an incident occurred. Police have investigated this matter and the file has been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecution who is the competent authority for these matters,” Brandy said.

Widespread public debate continues on the matter involving Grant, Minister of Tourism, Transport and Ports, relating to viral cellphone videos which implicate him in altercations with police officers on the night in question at Las Lap Bar in Bird Rock. Some members of the public and the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party are of the view that Minister Grant should resign from office. SKNLP leader Dr. Terrance Drew has publicly demonstrated with a placard calling for Grant’s resignation.
