BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Monday 4th December 2023)- Newspaper has been recognized for its role under the umbrella of the overall impact of pioneering excellence, exceptional achievements, outstanding commitment and longevity in the St.
Kitts-Nevis National Carnival (Sugar Mas). At the second annual Sugar Mas Awards held on Saturday 25th November 2023 at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel located in Frigate Bay, the award for ‘Steward of Carnival Award in recognition of consistent and exemplary assistance to National Carnival’ was accepted by Acting Editor Precious Mills.
Production Manager Mitchel Slader, who has been employed by the company for over 50 years, also attended the prestigious event. Newspaper was established in May 1957, and was formerly The Union Messenger which began operations in the 1930s.
Mills, delivering an acceptance speech, stated: “For over 50 yearsthat is for more than five decades, Newspaper has been all in with the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival in playing its part to capture and highlight the artistry, revelry and other exciting elements of our festive National product.” She added: “On behalf of management and staff of and by extension its proprietorthe St.
Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union (a longstanding workers representative organization), I hereby express heartfelt gratitude to the Carnival Committee for this media spotlight recognition. We are extremely proud that both digitally and physically our readers are able to flip through the pages of our publications to reminisce and experience the sweetness of Sugar Mas through feel-good and positive news coverage over the years!

Samal Duggins in his welcome remarks stated: “Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude they say is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness consist merely of words while gratitude they say is shown in action, and as your minister of the creative economy, I pledge to always champion any cause to express gratitude punctuated with thankfulness to the sustainability of our carnival and culture.” He expressed that awards are motivational tools and marks of creative excellence.
