Word has circulated that certain new procedures have been instituted by the customs authorities, allowing packages to be opened, checked and resealed without the consignee being present. Persons are already complaining that they find items missing from their packages. Such procedures make it very easy for persons to be framed: customs officials could plant contraband items in packages, reseal them, then claim to have found them. This is a very dangerous matter, and a very grave threat to our people. We are calling on all of our people, especially those who have been silent for the past six years, to raise their voices in protest. It is time to speak out.
