Those of us who voted in 1993 and again in 1995 would have never in our wildest dreams thought as we waited in line in 2020 to cast our vote, that in 2022 we would be voting in another general election again. A set of immature, little people were in power and if we paid attention to what all of the ministers of government were saying, none of them wanted fresh elections. In fact, even after the PAM ministers were holding their town hall meetings and Timothy was having his press conference, PAM and CCM were still trying to engage with Timothy to see if they could resolve and not dissolve. Anybody who understands Timothy could have told them that he wasn’t going to bow.
And because PAM and CCM didn’t understand who they were in bed with, they believed that Timothy needed them if he wanted to be in government. So they pushed and they pushed because they were both convinced that one side couldn’t do without the other and someone would give in. And before they knew what had hit them, they had “mash it up.” The kinds of things that have happened since Timothy got rid of the PAM/CCM faction are cause for great concern and alarm. Reasonable people should be terrified to put any of these parties in power because their only motivations are money, power and greed.
Just as in 1995 we needed fresh elections and a fresh set of people with fresh ideas to get the job done, right now we need fresh, untainted leadership to get us out of this political mess. Truth be told: only when the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party has been in power has the country seen meaningful, sustained development. Any major investment has happened under Labour’s watch. CPL is here because of Labour. Music Festival is here because of Labour. The Kim Collins Stadium is here because of Labour. The cricket stadium is here because of Labour. On the other hand, the stem cell scandal is here because of Unity. The herpes scandal is here because of Unity. The Hushpuppi scandal is here because of Unity. General Elections are here in 2022 because of Unity. It’s a new day. A better way. Make your vote count. Vote for the ever caring hand of Labour.
