Eight To Battle For Senior Calypso Monarch Sugar Mas 47 Crown

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Tuesday 18th December 2018)-Following a highly competitive Senior Calypso Monarch Semi-finals eight (8) calypsonians have advanced to the Finals which is scheduled to be held on Saturday 29th December at Carnival Village in Basseterre.

The end of the Sunday 16th December Semi-Finals saw Queen Diva with 757 points;  Queen Kibie with 749 points;  Charis D with 744 points;  Queen Brown Sugar with 739 points; King Godfrey with  715 points;  Lil Miss with 709 points and De Awesome Navigator with 692 points were named finalists.

Queen Diva performed her tunes ‘Reflection on the Plantation’ and ‘I Declare’; Queen Kibie dished out ‘The Real You’ and Side Dish’; Charis D rendered ‘One Caribbean and ‘What you going back for’; Brown Sugar- ‘Guilty Parents’ and ‘Against Your Own’; Awesome Navigator- ‘Put Dem Down’ and Carnival fiesta’; King Godfrey – ‘Snout in the trough’ and ‘Is me Carnival and Lil Miss performed to ‘No wuk no pay’ and ‘I am a patriot’.

Singing Jackie was named as alternate.

They will do battle against the reigning Senior Calypso Monarch, Miss Independent, as she defends her title. Last year, she became first ever Female National Senior Calypso Monarch and was recently crowned the winner of the Female Calypso Bacchanal held in November.

She is expected to perform her winning tune ‘Ratatat’.

Genesis, Unexpected, Hollywood, Singing Sharon, Lord Kut, Glenroy Blanchette, Lord Payne and Lady B also participated in the semi-finals.

The St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) takes this time to congratulate and thank all artistes who registered and participated in the Semi-finals and wish the finalists the best of luck.

On January 17, the U.S. Embassy joined representatives of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, including Nevis Premier, the Honorable Mark Brantley, along with members of the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society at the Bath Hotel in Nevis to mark the successful completion of the second phase of restoration and stabilization work at the historic site. The project was supported through the U.S. Government’s Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation, with total funding of just over US$400,000 provided across two phases.
