BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 11th March 2022) — Leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Dr. Terrance Drew, in looking at government minister Lindsay Grant still being in office even after being charged for beating a police officer, is of the view that a regular individual would be on leave. Speaking to Freedom FM on Wednesday 9th March 2022, he called on Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr. Timothy Harris to “apply standards that would have been applied if it was someone else.”

“If he does nothing, Prime Minister Harris will be seen as part and parcel of this whole situation where justice is not served and seems to many that Minister Grant is being given special favour. If it had been any civil servant or anybody who is under the direct management of the Prime Minister, that person would have been relieved of their position and so we saying this should be the case as well. Minister Grant should be relieved of his ministerial duties until this case is resolved,” Dr. Drew stated.

Dr. Drew highlighted that Grant was charged two months after the incident: “We know that if it was a regular and ordinary person who is not a minister of government, they would have been served with a summons or charged very quickly. We’re asking for justice in this case. The rule of law should be applied equally across the board without fear or favour, and what we saw on that tape, had it been somebody else, we know that the course of action would have been different.” He commended the female officer who called for backup when she realised the situation was escalating: “She also sought to act professionally and I would like to commend her for that as well because it must have been a difficult situation for her.”
