BASSETERRE (Thursday 31st December 2020) — Persons going to social media to air allegations about stolen or missing items from a new cargo clearance system are being asked to make formal contact with the relevant authorities instead. Acting Comptroller at Customs Jomo Butler said that over 1,777 non-commercial individuals had been processed through the new system in just 16 days. “It is a perception and it is not grounded in empirical data or any evidence of any kind,” he said of theft allegations. Those with genuine claims are asked to contact the point person at Customs, Kishma Griffin, rather than venting on social media.
