BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 25th January 2024) – Chairman of the Nevis Culturama Committee Antonio ‘Abonaty’ Liburd has revealed that street vending in Charlestown for the upcoming Culturama 50 festivity will be looked at in addressing the challenges of the past.
He made the disclosure while speaking at the Culturama 50 press – LOCAL NEWS – He went on further to say: “Of course we have put the Whistleblowers Act and so forth, and so I’m asking that our people look at the law; the law was passed and there is a channel that you can use and our people have access to it, and I want to encourage our people to use those channels so that in a great sense you make sure that everybody has equal opportunities and equal protection under the law; those who make accusations and those who are accused, it is important of course that each person gets their own protection under the law and so the law is applied when it has to definitely be applied.” According to him, the cabinet is strong and united. “I want to say that the cabinet is united.

Konris Maynard is a part of the strong cabinet as well, and I want to thank the whole cabinet again for their contribution to the development of their country; for all that they have been doing to thus far to make sure that we practice what we preach but not only that but to bring innovation, competence; putting our people at the center of development; creating an environment that had never been seen before in terms of the innovation that we are bringing forward.” “So I want to thank each and every one of them and to encourage them to continue to abide by the Integrity in Public Life laws and so forth, and to say to the public of course that they have their channels to raise any issues that they want to raise.

And so this year, for Culturama 50, because we are expecting a lot of traffic, foot and vehicular traffic to Charlestown, we will be endeavoring to reorganize the vending operations in Charlestown.
We will be assigning vending spots to our vendors. Let me rephrase, to our registered vendors because we recognize that a number of vendors come and vend without registering, and so we’ll be policing that.” Liburd continued: “But with all of the persons that are expected to be on Nevis, you would recognize that we have to have an organized vending system in Charlestown that would reduce any incidents of pedestrians or vehicles traveling through the streets of Charlestown, especially on those crowded daysCulturama Monday and Cutturama Tuesday.
So, we’ll be looking to reorganize, revamping the vending in Charlestown. The Culturama Chairman also shared plans to spruce up the Cultural Complex and Cultural Village. “We are also looking to spruce up our Cultural Complex and Cultural Village which we hope, or we are aiming to improve the overall experience for our patrons at both venues, and this sprucing up will begin shortly, as early as next month, and so you can expect to come in a better environment; an improved environment for Culturama 50.” ‘Celebrating Culture, Embracing History, It’s Culturama 50’ is this year’s slogan for the festivity which is expected to see the official launch on Friday 12th July 2024.
