Dear reader, before going into the topic of the day, I would like to inform you that for the past two weeks I was heavily involved in a battle with COVID-19 and I won that battle. I am now at home and continuing my writing to ensure that TRUE DEMOCRACY reigns in my country! During my battle, I kept reciting the quotation of James J. Corbett: “FIGHT ONE MORE ROUND! When your feet are so tired that you have to shuffle back to the center of the ring, Fight one more round! When your arms are so weary that you can hardly lift your hands up to come on guard, Fight one more round! When your nose is bleeding and your eyes are swollen shut and you feel so tired that you wish your opponent would crack you on the jaw and put you out to sleep, Fight one more round! Always remember, the person who keeps fighting ‘ONE MORE ROUND’ is NEVER whipped!”
Let us take a little walk down History Lane back to 1993, when PAM went to the polls having 6 seats in their pockets as against Labour’s 2. At the end of counting, LABOUR gained 4 seats and PAM gained 4 seats in St. Kitts. Dr. Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds held on to power, claiming that he had won the elections. A meeting was held in Nevis — the “Four Seasons Accord” — with the leaders of PAM, Labour, the Business Community, the Christian Council and the Evangelical Association. The Agreement reached stated that Dr. Kennedy Simmonds would continue as Prime Minister but that General Elections be held within six months. General Elections were held in 1995 and LABOUR emerged victorious, winning SEVEN of the EIGHT SEATS in St. Kitts. In the 2000 General Elections, LABOUR captured ALL EIGHT SEATS in St. Kitts.
When LABOUR won in 1995, Timothy Sylvester Harris — who had also won his seat in Constituency 7 — sought study leave from his Ministerial post of Minister of Agriculture to pursue his Doctoral degree. All of his Cabinet Colleagues objected, but Dr. Denzil Douglas saw in him a future Leader of the SKNLP and defied the request of his Cabinet Colleagues. Here was Timothy Harris, allowed to go on study leave with Full Ministerial Pay. Dr. Douglas would man his Ministries and run his Constituency 7 during his absence. Dr. Douglas thought he was assisting a dedicated ambitious young man; he did not know that he was creating a whip to cut his own backside. Dr. Timothy Harris, now armed with his Doctoral Degree, headed to Dr. Douglas’ office not to thank him, but to ask, “When are you going to hand over the Leadership of the Party to me?” This BEGUILEMENT of Dr. Douglas — greater than that of Eve in the Garden of Eden — was all part and parcel of Harris’s preparation to become the Leader of the Federation.
On Dr. Harris’s return from studying for his Doctoral degree, he was able to BEGUILE his Cabinet Colleagues who objected to his study leave — convincing the same colleagues who vehemently objected to his journey — that the very Dr. Denzil Douglas was a horrible Leader and should be discarded. What Satanic powers does this man possess? And now look at how he has Dr. Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds — who tried his darndest to ensure that Harris could not survive in St. Kitts after dismissing him from Social Security in 1984 — eating out of the palm of his hands today, made the First Living National Hero? And Michael Oliver Powell made an Ambassador? Timothy Harris does not appreciate kindnesses bestowed upon him by anyone! AN INGRATE IS AN INGRATE AND WILL ALWAYS BE AN INGRATE!
