BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Monday 16th January 2023)- Chairperson of the St. Kitts-Nevis National Committee Shannon Hawley has disclosed that the marketing for Sugar Mas 52 will begin in the second quarter of 2023. “We must continue to make our mark on the region as the bestnot only small island but best carnival-and as such the work continues immediately.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, our regional marketing activities will commence in the second quarter of 2023 to ensure that every carnival lover knows about Sugar Mas,” she stated during her remarks at the prize giving ceremony held on Friday 13th January 2023, at The Circus in Basseterre. Hawley touched on plans to get Sugar Mas 51 reviews from stakeholders.“We intend over the next two weeks to complete the reviews of each National carnival event and thereafter engage our stakeholders whether it is our troupe leaders, calypsonians, entertainers, band leaders, event promoters to chart the way forward for Sugar Mas 52.
It is important that all stakeholders understand our vision as a committee, it is equally as important to get their valued feedback as to how we can improve our National Carnival product.” The Carnival Chairperson expressed gratitude to the National Carnival Minister and the entire Cabinet for ensuring that the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival was supported and assisted at every single step of the way during the planning and execution of the National Carnival.“You would recall in October during our first press conference , Minister Duggins indicated that this year’s National Carnival would be the biggest and the best in recent history, and I personally think-and I’m sure that you do as well-that it was.
We collectively pulled off a national event of this magnitude in little time and we need to give ourselves a round of applause for that.” Hawley thanked the thousands of stakeholders including production team, cleaning crews, participants, troupe leaders, band leaders, volunteers, vendors, caterers, revellers and spectators who “assisted us in ensuring we reach our goal for a quality carnival product for carnival lovers locally, regionally and internationally to enjoy. Over the past three years, we have significantly grown the Sugar Mas brand and this year we saw a significant influx of passionate carnival lovers converge on our shores during the month of December, to celebrate Sugar Mas 51 with us and they were not disappointed by all accounts.
This year, the committee provided unprecedented subventions to many stakeholders due to extreme challenges to do with supply chain issues, rising costs, shipping issues and the list goes on and on. The Carnival Chairpersons added: “In addition to this, the committee was also able to sustain increase in prize monies awarded for our 50th anniversary last year for a number of – NEWS -competitions including panorama, senior monarch calypso competition, soca monarch, national queen pageant and swimwear pageant as well as this year we added the junior calypso monarch in the mix.” Meanwhile, Minister of the Creative Economy with responsibility for Carnival Samal Duggins he expressed congratulations and appreciation to everyoneincluding participants, sponsors, patrons and committee members-who played a role in the success of Sugar Mas 51.
“Without you, this year’s wonderful carnival experience would not have been possible and we are already eagerly awaiting your contribution for Sugar Mas 52,” he commented.
