Calendar Of Events For Culturama 47 Revealed

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (April 15, 2021) — The Culturama Festival Secretariat has released a proposed calendar of events for the scaled-down, COVID-compliant Culturama 47 festival, curtailed to eight days from Tuesday 27th July to Tuesday 3rd August 2021.

Executive Director Antonio “Abonaty” Liburd unveiled the approved events: the official opening ceremony at the Cultural Complex (27 July, 8 p.m.); a dance production by the Rhythm of the Arts Dance Ensemble at NEPAC (28 July, 8 p.m.); a steelpan competition at the Cultural Complex (29 July, 7 p.m.); Soca Monarch competition at the Cultural Complex (30 July, 8 p.m.); Senior Kaiso Finals and Nevis Heritage Day at the Heritage Village in Fothergills (31 July); a virtual “Jam Where You Are” Emancipation J’ouvert with local mas camps competing for King and Queen of Culturama (1 August); a dramatic presentation by the Nevis Theatre & Film Association at NEPAC (2 August, 8 p.m.); and an all-day Emancipation Celebration featuring local food vendors, folklore groups, folk music, electronic bands and DJs at the Cultural Complex and Cultural Village (3 August, 10 a.m. onwards).

Pre-Culturama activities include senior kaiso tents launching 26 June at the David Freeman Centre of Excellence in Gingerland, with further tent nights, soca tents, kaiso eliminations and soca semi-finals leading up to the main events. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all events are planned at reduced capacity and in compliance with health protocols.
