President Biden has gotten off to a seemingly good start, with the promise of a return to normal behaviour. His immediate return to the Paris Accord is heart-warming. He has also signalled his intention to re-join the WHO and COVAX. Of great significance to our movement is Mr Biden’s handling of the standoff with the National Labor Relations Board’s general counsel Peter Robb — a former management lawyer who took a pro-business approach patently contrary to the NLRB’s role. Biden told Robb to resign by 5pm or he would be fired. By 8:45pm the position was listed as “vacant.” All across America labour groups celebrated and hailed it as “a welcome departure from Trump administration policies deemed hostile toward workers and unions.” On the eve of the general election Biden had pledged to be “the most pro-union president you’ve ever seen.” Let us hope this new spirit spreads all across America and further afield, including to our nation.
