All Eyes On Nation For Labour’s Historic Leadership Transition

The Labour Spokesman Editorial

According to the word on the street, someone from the west recently planned with a chap from the east taking a special journey that involved crossing southward. As the story goes, all was agreed but, as time for action drew nigh, West suddenly found that East was not answering his telephones. West became greatly concerned for his ‘friend,’ but became utterly devastated when he learned what had taken place. Upon learning about the planned trip southward, a certain ‘naked’ chap from the north-east, and a next door neighbour of East, quietly postponed the assembly, and invited East to join him on an even more special and exotic trip, this time to the middle-east.

By now it should be clear to most everyone that ‘unity’ has deserted the schemers. Our main concern should be about the fact that it will end badly, as we predicted, and as ALL Faustian bargains do end.

In the meanwhile let us turn our full attention to our own affairs. On Sunday, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party goes into a special conference, the outcome of which will have an effect on the future of the labour movement and, by extension, that of our nation — not to mention, this is one for the history books! The delegates who will be participating in this electoral conference must therefore give thoughtful consideration as they exercise their democratic right to have a say in the results.

Those delegates should ask themselves: What kind of leadership does the party and nation need at this point in history? The outcome of elections on any level must be guided by good conscience. Be involved in the affairs of nation building in your country — in wholesome community development in general as citizens and residents of St. Kitts-Nevis. The future DEMANDS it of us!
