BASSETERRE (Friday 15th January 2021) — A suspect has been taken into custody for questioning after two young men were fatally shot at Lower Thibou Avenue in Central Basseterre on Monday 11th January 2021 shortly after 6 p.m. Dead are 20-year-old Lamont Heyliger of McKnight and 19-year-old Jahquan Merritt of Fort Thomas Road. Police say preliminary investigations revealed that Heyliger, Merritt and others were in a shed when an individual shot both men. Merritt was transported to the JNF General Hospital and succumbed to his injuries that night. These deaths are the first recorded homicides in St. Kitts-Nevis for 2021.
