BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, July 22, 2024 (MMS-SKN) — Action on Sunday July 21, at the National Bank Group of Companies Technical Centre, St. Peter’s, brought an end to the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association’s (SKNFA) Premier League regular season with teams from Constituency Number Eight taking the first two spots.
Among the ten teams taking part, Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis St. Peters Football Club finished at the top with 35 points, and was closely followed by Azul Cayon Rockets with 34 points. Among the first to congratulate the two teams was Area Parliamentary Representative, Prime Minister the Hon Terrance Drew.
The significance of the games was underscored when an Executive Branch meeting of Labour Constituency Eight that had earlier been scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on same day at the St. Peter’sAnglican Church Hall had its time, through a Facebook post at 4:57 a.m., brought forward to 3:00 p.m.
The meeting was held under the theme ‘Keeping Connected’, and the reason given for the abrupt change of time came with a special note advising of SKNFA Premier League matches and “all are encouraged to go out and support our community teams at 5:00 p.m.” According to both Prime Minister Drew, and C8 Executive Branch Chairperson Ms Avonelle Martin, three of their community teams were playing. Two of the teams, Development Bank St.
Peters FC and SOL IAS Conaree FC were meeting in the first match at 5:00 p.m. and Azul Cayon Rockets FC was playing against SLH St. Paul’s United FC in the second match at 7:30 p.m. both at the National Bank Group of Companies Technical Centre, St.
Peter’s. The St. Peter’s community had every reason to celebrate as their team used their home advantage to the maximum, to beat their sister team from Conaree 4-1. Residents of Cayon had every reason to celebrate as their team thrashed St.
Paul’s United FC 5-2. “I take this opportunity to congratulate all the teams that are playing in the SKNFA leagues, whether it is the Premier League or the First Class League,” said Prime Minister Drew on Monday July 22. “However, I want to especially congratulate the teams from Constituency Number Eight, namely St.
Peter’s FC, Cayon Rockets FC and the Conaree FC.” The Honourable Prime Minister noted that the three teams performed very well and he gave tremendous amount of credit to the St. Peter”s FC for winning the league, and congratulated all the players, coaches, and the executive leadership.
