BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 13th April 2022) — Well-known coordinator of the annual Basil Henderson Aquatic Sports Meet Winston ‘Zack’ Nisbett says he is thankful for the ongoing support from members of the public and the business community as he remains focused on keeping the culture alive in honour of the late organiser Basil Henderson. Nisbett, who has been the event organiser since 2005, paid tribute to his predecessor: “Basil gave freely to the ordinary citizens. He assisted them through monetary donations so that they could buy school uniforms, and he induced them into the 4-H which was an organisation which helped the young people to understand the basic principles of life — to be respectful to people, have manners, to learn to read and be involved in parades. The swimming races was one of his babies. However, he died in 2005 and just after his death, I took it up from there until carrying the burden right up to now.”
This year’s event is the 65th annual Basil Henderson Easter Monday Aquatic Sports Meet, slated for Monday 18th April at the Basseterre Terminal. Even though the event comes just as the country is coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nisbett said: “The response from the public has been overwhelming and we even have new sponsors onboard. My anticipation is that it is going to be one of the more exciting sports meets it has ever been — the excitement, the enthusiasm, the kind of respect that has been given so far is interesting and it is responsive because people are giving, people are contributing.”
