Henrique Capriles broke with US-backed leader Juan Guaido, vowing to fight for fair elections on 6 December despite obstacles from President Maduro. “We aren’t going to hand over the National Assembly to Maduro as a gift,” Capriles said. His announcement shattered 18 months of opposition unity; he criticised Guaido without naming him, saying Maduro clearly holds power while opposition lawmakers maintain an “internet government.”
