UPDATED: 3-Vehicle Accident Claims Life Of Teen Basketballer

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: The village of Sandy Point and the basketball fraternity were sent into mourning on Monday 2nd October following a three-vehicle accident which left 19- year- old Seccada Garroden of Sandy Point dead.

According to the authorities, the fatal incident occurred around 10:26 PM on the Island’s Main Road in the vicinity of the Ross University School of Medicine in West Farm involving passenger bus HA413, motorcar P4795 and motor jeep P5904.

Investigators revealed that HA413 in which Garroden was a passenger returning home from a basketball match and PA4795 were travelling from Basseterre while P5904 was travelling in the opposite direction when the accident took place.

Garroden died on the scene while some of his team mates that were travelling along with him were taken to the Joseph N France General Hospital for treatment.

Driver of P5904 was taken into police custody and is assisting with the investigations.

This brings the number of road fatalities for the year 2017 to six (6) in the Federation.

In light of the incident the Sandy Point Basketball Team, Pride Kings, issued a statement describing Garroden as “terrific young man” who had a bright future. The team also extended prayers and condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The St. Kitts Basketball Association echoed similar thoughts noting that Seccada was one of the Federation’s most talented and gifted national youth players. Heartfelt condolences to his family were also expressed.

The Labourspokesman joins in extending condolences to the family in this time of grief.
