Stairs Fall Leaves Elderly Tourist Dead Hours After Arriving On Island

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 11th May 2023)- Police have revealed details that an elderly male tourist died from injuries sustained having fallen down some stairs at a hotel during the nighttime, hours after arriving on island for vacation.

Dead is Gary Welsh. His country of origin has not been given. The Public Relations office released a statement on Wednesday 10th May, which indicated that the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) is investigating the circumstances

that led to an overseas visitor’s untimely demise at a local hotel. Reportedly, the unfortunate incident occurred around 8PM on May 9th, 2023. Police say Emergency services (EMS) received a call for assistance for Gary Welch, an elderly Caucasian man who had fallen down some stairs to the hotel’s ground floor.

Further details reveal Welch, who arrived earlier that day on vacation with his family, lost his balance while ascending the stairs from the first floor. – NEWS9 Both EMS and the RSCNPF responded to the scene and Mr. Welsh was promptly transported to the Joseph N.

France General Hospital for treatment via ambulance. Regrettably, he succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital. The RSCNPF expresses sincere condolences to Welsh’s family and all those impacted by his sudden passing.

Police say the incident is currently being investigated and updates will be provided accordingly.
