BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Tuesday 30th April 2024)- As International Workers’ Day (Labour Day) approaches, the longstanding workers representative organisation the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union (SKNT&LU) is rallying workers across the nation to join its ranks in solidarity and strength.
SKNT&LU General Secretary Precious Mills emphasized the significance of workers’ unity and collective action in advocating for their rights and interests. “International Workers’Day serves as a powerful reminder of the essential role workers play in our society and economy.
It is a day to celebrate our achievements, reflect on our challenges, and reaffirm our commitment to standing together as one.” For the occasion, on Monday 6th, 2024, the SKNTLU will proudly march on Labour Day, spreading the message of being an effectiveness and powerful voice for workers by way of highlighting its unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of workers across the nation. Furthermore, as part of its outreach efforts, following the march, the SKNTLU will host its second annual ‘Working For Workers’ booth at the Patsy Allers Play Field, which overall extends its current online campaign dubbed ‘Workers Matter First.’ “The Union extends a warm invitation to all workers and supporters to join in the festivities and partake in the celebration of workers’ rights and achievements,  Mills stated.
Over the past year, interest in joining SKNT&LU has seen a notable increase, reflecting growing awareness among workers of the importance of union representation. The Union has been actively involved in championing workers’ rights, tackling issues such as fair wages, safe working conditions and job security.
“SKNT&LU remains dedicated to serving the needs and interests of workers across diverse sectors. We are committed to ensuring that workers are treated with the dignity, respect, and fairness they deserve in the workplace.” Labour Day, observed annually on the first Monday in the month of May, holds particular significance as a day to commemorate the struggles and triumphs of the labour movement. – LOCAL NEWS – In anticipation of International Workers’ Day, SKNT&LU has announced the availability of special commemorative shirts for purchase by unionised members.
These shirts, adorned with the Union’s emblem, symbolize solidarity and unity among workers. To further incentivise membership, the shirts will be offered at a discounted price exclusively for unionised members. “We encourage all workers to proudly don their SKNT&LU shirts on International Workers’ Day as a symbol of unity and strength.

all workers,” Mills said. As workers prepare to observe International Workers’ Day, SKNT&LU’s message rings clear: unity is our greatest asset. Through collective action and solidarity, workers can amplify their voices, safeguard their rights, and strive for a more just and equitable society.
