BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 12th April 2023)- Leader of the opposition People’s Action Movement (PAM) and Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Five Shawn Richards is asking party supporters and non-party supporters alike for help in giving “positive suggestions” geared towards rebuilding the party.
“Even if it is at this particular point in time you don’t support the People’s Action Movement but you have looked at the People’s Action Movement and you recognize that there are things that we can do differently; you have positive suggestions, positive criticisms… He made the appeal for help during a live video streaming via social media page Facebook/PAM-The People’s Action Movement on Tuesday18th April 2023.
According to him: “The People’s Action Movement is very strong. We are in the process rebuilding our party. We have asked all of our executive members to put all hands on deck and I’m happy to say that is exactly what we are doing; we are in the process rebuilding PAM.
We are in the transformation process so that the People’s Action Movement will be come back stronger than ever.” Richards shared that session is the first of a new live series that the party will be starting, and will be held every other Tuesday. “You will have different candidates or different executive members coming to you and speaking on different issues during this live.
I want those of you who are listening, if you have any questions, feel free to type your questions so that at the end of it, your questions can be answered,” he said about the live stream series.

The PAM Leader spoke about what has been happening with the party since the August 2022 general elections.
“Now, over the last few months since the general elections in August of last year, we’ve had a series of meetings. We’ve had executive meetings, we’ve had meetings with candidates, we’ve had meetings with individuals and groups from the different constituencies and we are continuing those series of meetings.
We intend to engage our supporters who are overseas whether by Zoom or whether by some other means because as I said earlier, we want all hands on deck in rebuilding the People’s Action Movement. During the course of the last few months, we’ve taken a hard look at the People’s Action Movement.
We have been looking at our structures, we have been looking at our approach, we have put certain committees into effect to …restructure some of the aspects of things that we do and how we go about doing those particular things. He added: “For example, we have put a media committee in place which is to engage persons in terms of current events.
We have looked at a – LOCAL NEWS – 3 constituency group, and that particular committee is going to look at the different constituencies and concentrate [and] get ideas as to how we can go about rebuilding PAM in the different constituencies.” Richards said a committee has been put in place “in each and every constituency to provide you with the best possible candidate so that at the end of the day we are confident that we will be able to win that particular constituency.” He went on to say: “We are open to ideas, we are open to suggestions so if you have any ideas, any suggestions as to some of the things that we ought to do differently going forward, we welcome those suggestions. PAM is an inclusive party and is a party which wants to hear the ideas of all of the different persons.
Even if it is at this particular point in time you don’t support the People’s Action Movement but you have looked at the People’s Action Movement and you recognize that there are things that we can do differently; you have positive suggestions, positive criticisms… to provide the People’s Action Movement, we want to hear from you. We want to hear from every individual who have positive feedback to give to us here in the People’s Action Movement.” The PAM Leader also told individuals, who perhaps chose in the last electionfor whatever reason-did not support PAM “we welcome you back and we also welcome your feedback too.” Notably, the PAM party ran total of eight candidates in each constituency in the August 2022 general elections, and Richards was the only candidate who won his seat.
The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party captured 6 out of 8 seats in forming the present government. Leader of the other opposition arm the People’s Labour Party (PLP) Dr. Timothy Harris regained the Constituency Seven seat, and both him and Richards are former colleagues of the brokenup Team Unity coalition.
