BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Tuesday 17th January 2023)- Members of the public have been split in their reaction to local authorities charging an adult teenager in connection with the deadly stabbing of 21year-old Javrell Alford of St.
Paul’s which occurred during the recent J’ouvert street activity for Sugar Mas 51. Charged with murder is 18year-old Calbert Powell of Station Street, Old Road. A police statement issued on Monday 16th January 2023, provided such details informing that the young man was arrested and is currently in custody.
Reportedly, he was charged on January 15, 2023. Taking to social media, some members of the public have been applauding the police regarding such an update while some others are claiming that the teen is innocent. Some of the comments on Facebook in reaction to Powell’s arrest are: “This is what good policing is all about.
Finding perpetrators and letting them have their day in court”, “Am glad that the police’s officers did they job because that family need some kind of justice for they son, brother, grandson”, “They have the wrong person but I will fight for him because I now he didn’t do it” and “Hope Is Rite Man They charged That All I’m Going To Say”. According to the police, the stabbing incident occurred on Fort Street sometime around 10 a.m. on and that Alford sustained what appeared to be a stab wound and was rushed to the J.N.F.General Hospital by officers using a police vehicle.
Police further say he was being treated for his injury but succumbed sometime later. The funeral service for Javrell Alford was held on Thursday 12th January at the St. Paul’s Sporting Complex in St. Paul’s.
