BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 3rd June 2022) — Prime Minister and PLP Leader Dr. Timothy Harris described his fired colleagues as “lazy people” at a cabinet press conference held on Tuesday 1st June 2022 at NEMA Headquarters, after being quizzed by a local reporter about claims from his former Team Unity Government associates about being undermined by him. “There has never been any undermining reported by any minister; never until now. This is part of the deceitful politics that has now been propagated by the six who have been sacked for non-performance by this government. Go back to the 2020 General Elections — you hear each and every one of them saying Dr. Harris has given sterling performance to this country,” he said.
“What we had were lazy people; ministers who did not even know that it was in a budget which they purportedly support. They did not know where certain revenues were included in a budget. Suddenly, they didn’t know after seven years. You have heard from each of the ministers. You have heard the Attorney General; within days he was able to do that which had not been done in seven years while budgetary resources were being provided,” PM Harris added.
At a press briefing held in April 2022, PAM Leader Shawn Richards had accused PM Harris of undermining him and other cabinet colleagues: “Many of the projects to be undertaken by CCM, PAM and even the other PLP minister were frustrated and starved of money from the ministry of finance, and the reason was to make us look bad and make one man look good because later he would implement some measures and claim that only he was responsible. One man sat in a cabinet corner quietly and systematically undermining his own colleagues.”
