PM Harris Announces 24-Hour Lockdown For St. Kitts; Nevis Exempted From New Measures

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Saturday 26th June 2021) — With 313 active COVID-19 cases in the Federation, Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris announced fresh restrictions for residents on St. Kitts in a national address on Friday 25th June 2021, which do not apply to Nevis. PM Harris stated: “There will be a special carve-out for the island of Nevis which will basically remain the same as obtains presently but will be detailed in the SR&O.”

The new restrictive measures for St. Kitts included: a complete 24-hour lockdown from 6:00 p.m. Sunday 27th June to 5:00 a.m. Thursday 1st July; limited movement for essential businesses from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd July; return to full 24-hour lockdown from 6:00 p.m. Friday 2nd July to Thursday 8th July; limited movement again on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th July; and return to 24-hour lockdown on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th July. A Shelter in Place Order was to be strictly enforced, confining every person to their place of residence inclusive of yard space except: essential workers; workers at hospitals, medical facilities, security services and other specifically exempted businesses; those with medical emergencies; and those travelling to a vaccination site between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. from Monday 28th June to Wednesday 30th June with vaccination card and photo ID. All places of business including doctors’ offices to be closed during strict lockdown hours. Only supermarkets, pharmacies and medical facilities allowed on days of limited operation. No mass gatherings or social events. Beaches in St. Kitts to be closed. Liquor licences suspended. A special dispensation was granted for students and guardians to travel to examination centres, and for farmers and fishers to tend their work during limited operation days.
