Overseas CARICOM Observers Arrive Close To Polling Day

BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Thursday 4th June 2020) — The announcement of a team of overseas observers to the Federation was made shortly before their arrival two days ahead of the June 5th General Elections.

Chairman of the COVID-19 National Task Force Abdias Samuel made the information public at the NEOC COVID-19 Daily Briefing on Wednesday 3rd June 2020, less than an hour before the Regional Security Services (RSS) flight was expected to arrive. That flight, he said, was “bringing to us observers for the general elections.”

The CARICOM Election Observation Mission is headed by Mr. Gasper Jean Baptiste, Chief Elections Officer of Saint Lucia. The other members are H.E. Mr. Arley Gill and Mr. Chester Arlington Humphrey, both nationals of Grenada. The Mission arrived on Wednesday 3rd June 2020 and will depart on Sunday 7th June 2020. It proposes to meet with electoral officials, leaders of political parties and other stakeholders, and will monitor the voting process including the opening of the poll, the casting of votes, the closing of the poll and the counting of the ballots.
