BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Friday 29th May 2020) — Following official Nominations held on Wednesday 27th May 2020, a total of nine (9) newcomers to the political race arena are among the twenty-three (23) runners in the June 5th, 2020 General Elections, including one independent.
The breakdown of candidates is as follows: Constituency One: SKNLP newcomer Dr. Geoffrey Hanley vs. PAM’s Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd. Constituency Two: SKNLP’s Marcella Liburd vs. PAM Chairman Jonel Powell. Constituency Three: PLP newcomer Alkilah Byron-Nisbett vs. SKNLP’s Konris Maynard. Constituency Four: PAM Deputy Leader Lindsay Grant vs. SKNLP’s Steve Wrensford and independent Jason Thomas. Constituency Five: Deputy PM Shawn Richards vs. SKNLP newcomer Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Douglas. Constituency Six: SKNLP leader Denzil Douglas vs. PLP newcomer Kevin ‘Ninky’ Williams (notably the first time PAM is not challenging this seat). Constituency Seven: PM Timothy Harris vs. SKNLP newcomer Leon Natta-Nelson. Constituency Eight: SKNLP Chairman Dr. Terrance Drew vs. PAM’s Eugene Hamilton. Constituency Nine: CCM Leader Mark Brantley vs. NRP newcomer Dr. Kelvin Daley. Constituency Ten: CCM’s Eric Evelyn vs. NRP newcomer Bjorn Hanley. Constituency Eleven: CCM’s Alexis Jeffers vs. NRP’s Patrice Nisbett.
Today (Friday 29th May 2020) officially marks one week before the June 5th general elections. The SKNLP is the only party that has a nomination of a full slate of eight candidates in St. Kitts.
