OECS Media Release — Thursday 21 January 2021 — The OECS warmly welcomes the return of the United States to the Paris Agreement, enacted on Inauguration Day of President Biden Jr. OECS Director General Dr. Didacus Jules applauded President Biden for signalling that climate action and the coronavirus pandemic are “the twin faces of our existential threat.” PM of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit had passionately addressed the UN General Assembly after the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017: “We as a country and as a region did not start this war against nature! We did not provoke it! The war has come to us! We need action…and we need it NOW!” The OECS looks forward to the November 2021 UN Climate Conference in the UK.
