BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 7th January 2022) — The newly elected national leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Dr. Terrance Drew has expressed that “The people of St. Kitts and Nevis are yearning for change in their country after having to bear the consequences for electing a failed and corrupt regime for the last seven years.” He made the disclosure during his New Year’s Address to the Nation entitled “Powering for Purpose in Pursuit of the People’s Mandate,” delivered on Saturday 1st January 2022.
“Powering for purpose to fulfil the people’s mandate requires that the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party lead by example. We have always been a Party of high ideals and hard choices and, mark my words, we WILL be a government of high ideals and hard choices,” he said.
Dr. Drew spoke about his leadership values: “While our areas of focus, approaches and orientation may shift under my leadership, there are no Old Labour and New Labour values — there is only Labour values. We will always be the Party of compassion, of social justice, of the struggle against poverty and inequality, of liberty, of transparency, of openness, of basic human solidarity and democracy. The day that we cease to be these things is the day that we lose the reason for our existence as a Party.”
He invited “all from across the leadership and rank and file of our Party, and indeed from all across the nation, regardless of class, creed or political affiliation to join this great mission and to give to your country the gift of your energy, your ideas, your hopes and your talents.” Dr. Drew indicated that the Party will modernize St. Kitts-Nevis: “As we modernise the institutional and governance structures of the SKNLP, so too will we modernize our Federation. To build a truly unified country, not for a few, but for ALL the people. By the close of the next three years, this country will know that Labour can make the changes and the hard choices necessary to lift our country and people higher. This, is Powering for Purpose!”
