Meeting Slated This Weekend About Cricketer

 BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- (JANUARY, 2018): In light of the recent drug arrest of local Leeward Island Cricketer Akeem Saunders, the Leeward Island Cricket Association (LICA) is scheduled to meet here in St. Kitts over the weekend to discuss the future of its player.

According to an official press release from the LICA, Saunders was on his way back to St. Kitts after representing his team at the time of the arrest.

“The player was on his way back to St. Kitts after a match played between the Leeward Island Hurricane and the Jamaica Scorpions in Jamaica, when on arriving in Antigua 13gs of marijuana was found hidden in his shoe,” the release said.

It was further noted that Saunders appeared before the Antigua Court last week Thursday (18th January) and was fined $300.00 or seven days in prison.

He paid the fine and took the next available flight to St. Kitts.

Mr. Enoch Lewis, President of the LICA, in response to queries of whether or not Saunders will additional penalties, said that the LICA’s objective is to help the player in the best possible way.

“The Board will be meeting soon to determine how best to assist him,” he said.

He added that Saunders will not be participating in the CWI game as the priority of the Board is the wellness of the player and not cricket.
