Fair Share For All: Workers, Square Pegs And Knock Bout

Workers the federation over need to read the Parks and Beaches manual on How to Organize a Strike. Employers, including government, need to understand that when employees or voters have had enough, all the money in the world, all the threats in the world, all the imprisonment will not make a difference when minds are made up. There was a oneness of purpose. It was impossible to discern the politics of the workers. And just what happened on Monday is what will always happen when people have had enough.

But I still have to wonder what dead did the object of the protest bury for his employer so that he had that job in the first place. Everywhere that person has worked, there have been issues of every kind. I understand that politicians feel obligated to reward those who went through the alleys with them while they campaigned. But unless someone is being set up for failure, or the politician needs that person there to perform a particular role, certain people should not be given certain jobs regardless of their contribution to the campaign. Certain people are greedy. They want big “wuk” because it means big money. And instead of taking the time and effort to become competent in a job for which they are not qualified, they spend their time trying to frustrate the competent and the qualified.

Look at the permanent secretaries appointed by Labour and compare them with those brought in after 2015. Some serious square pegs in round holes. The departments function in spite of them. They truly don’t know their arse from their elbow. Big stones serve a more useful purpose than they do. Under-55 competent and qualified civil servants are home on half pay while the government prefers to hire who will bring back news and who will harass the competent to death.

Yet there is no groundswell of angry people because enough of the people have not reached the “enough” point. But one day we will reach the point of no return. That is how frustration works. And just as the workers at Parks and Beaches couldn’t and wouldn’t take anymore, I know that one day our time will come. And nothing and no one will be able to stop us. Happy 90th Anniversary to the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.
