Fair Share For All: Leadership, Sentences And No-Shows

Three topics on the minds of most calling into the talk shows or sharing their opinion on social media are the SKNLP leadership contest, the sentence that former permanent secretary Stanley Knight received and the no-show of Timothy Harris at the Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

I am happy that the election of a new leader to head the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party has generated such tremendous interest. That so many persons are weighing in on this leadership race is evidence that our country is crying out for an honest and caring government. What we have is the highest level of corruption this country has ever seen. Ministers have become multi-millionaires in less than five years. There seems to be a race in Cabinet to see who can make the most money in the shortest time. The most routine government projects that should cost a few hundred thousand dollars somehow manage to cost several million dollars every time.

Some government buildings have been under construction since 2015 and haven’t been completed as yet. I have been reliably informed that plans have been constantly changed and new contractors brought in so that costs can continue to increase and ministers continue to get richer and richer at taxpayers’ expense.

And that is why I believe that they had to give the former PS a little slap on the wrist. None of them can hold a candle of correction to none. Other persons in other high offices have been accused of similar crimes and up to now, not a thing has happened. And when we consider what role people played in previous elections and who is related to whom, we should count ourselves fortunate that the matter even reached this far.

Well I don’t think that too many persons ever thought that the “O” man would go anywhere near London. Once you are on British soil, no one knows what the authorities might do. So while all other Caribbean leaders felt the conference on climate change sufficiently important for them to attend, our Timo stayed away. When he was to travel and he got wind that something was amiss, he abandoned his travel plans.

In the meantime Labour massive, stay focused. We have big and important things to do.
