BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 21st July 2022) — Under three weeks before the 90-day constitutional window would close, Prime Minister and PLP Leader Dr. Timothy Harris ‘rang the bell.’ “I have advised His Excellency the Governor earlier this week that he should prepare for us to go to general elections in St. Kitts and Nevis on Friday 5th August 2022,” he declared on Sunday 17th July 2022 during a public meeting held in Tabernacle Village. Nomination Day is scheduled for Tuesday 26th July.
Addressing the crowd before making the announcement, Dr. Harris had teased: “You ask me when will the next five years start; it gon start soon. Somebody has been spreading propaganda that Dr. Harris looking for 90 more days. Tell dem me no need that. I have the love and support of the people. I am the champion of the people and the people are champions… Well 90 days no come yet!” He added: “It is time to end the uncertainty. It is time for us to move forward with a strong and united People’s Labour Party in government. It is time for you to decide.”
SKNLP Leader Dr. Terrance Drew, addressing his own public meeting in Buckley’s Village that same night, commented: “I can feel the excitement, I can sense the excitement. It has been seven long years of depression, seven long years of suppression, seven long years of bad governance, seven long years of poor healthcare, seven long years of denial and tonight we are saying that liberation day is coming and will be here on the 5th of August 2022! He waited and he waited. He tried to prolong it, he tried to deny us our liberation, he tried to deny us our freedom but he had to succumb to the pressure of the big red machine — liberation day is coming for all of us!”
