Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition and National Political Leader of the SKNLP
2020 was a trying year but a New Year gives us the opportunity for a new start. The Government’s Budget was a multi-faceted array of deceptions. The Labour Administration left this coalition government some $1 billion in the Consolidated Fund just 5 years ago, yet the Government now intends to borrow to fund its 2021 operations. Labour’s proposals include: $1,500 per month assistance to those still unemployed due to COVID-19 without social security criteria; rent assistance for those behind with rents; a moratorium on evictions; and a reduction of VAT from 17% to 14%. “2021 will test our resolve to be visionary, fair and compassionate. And all of us, regardless of party affiliation, must — TOGETHER — find the inner drive and fortitude that the moment demands.”
