COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments Increase As Cases Rise In SKN

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 28th May 2021) — In the space of one week, with 19 active COVID-19 cases announced, vaccine appointments in St. Kitts-Nevis have been increasing sharply. CMO Dr. Hazel Laws reported at the NEOC briefing on Wednesday 26th May that as of the end of work day Tuesday 25th May, 23,340 doses had been administered — 17,579 in St. Kitts and 5,761 in Nevis. As at that briefing, 52% of the target population had received at least a first dose, and 19% (5,968 persons) were fully vaccinated.

The largest single-day total of vaccine doses since the 22 February rollout was recorded on Tuesday 25th May, with 1,062 doses. By end of work day Wednesday 26th May, total doses stood at 24,297, with 6,561 having had their first dose. Among the 19 active cases were seven children aged 3 to 15 and nine adults aged 33 to 49; six cases were from the same household. Dr. Laws said the Federation is “working assiduously to contain this expanding cluster.” Over 700 individuals had been tested by 25th May, with 200 more expected the following day. All active cases are in stable condition. The federation has recorded 64 total COVID-19 cases — 50 on St. Kitts, 14 on Nevis — with no deaths and 45 recoveries.
