“The Police oath, administered upon joining this August Organization, admonishes that they must perform their duties without fear or favour, malice or ill-will. To perform their duties, they have to treat the rich, the powerful, the small man in the society with the utmost respect and impartiality, thus demanding the same in return. When anyone tries to degrade these professional men and women, the mainstay of law and order in the Country or State, the whole society, the whole community, the whole country should galvanize all efforts to severely condemn that individual, be he/she King, Queen, Pope, Prime Minister, or Ordinary Folk!”
Dear reader, in my first article for the New Year, I would like to wish my readers “A Happy, Healthy, Impregnable Brimstone Hill Fortress of inner strength to face the uncertainties of the New Year 2022.” We are living in perilous times. We could criticize, but never to bear malice or ill-will towards one another. Whether we like it or not, we are our brother and sister’s keeper. We need each other. We depend on each other, for no man, regardless of his wealth, is an island unto himself.
Let us now focus our attention on the subject of the Honourable Lindsay Fitzgerald Grant, a man who was caught on tape, red-handed, offering to sell the patrimony — the lands acquired in the people’s name — to a total stranger. This man, who, along with Honourable Jonel Herbert Powell, was FOUND GUILTY in the court of MISAPPROPRIATION of his client’s funds, shamelessly presented himself as a political candidate and the Electorate elected him. We, Kittitians, suffer a MORAL DROUGHT where nothing is right or wrong anymore. Honourable Lindsay Fitzgerald Grant insulted, abused and assaulted a female police officer and was not arrested. Is it that the Law is now biased and certain people are above it?
When I was a Police Officer from 1956–1963, as Secretary of the Police Welfare Association, we confronted a Commissioner of Police who had marked certain summonses “NO PROSECUTION” for his social friends. We stood up and declared: “If there are some who are above the Law, then the Police hands are tied and they are unable to perform their work impartially.” Every Commissioner of Police must be fortified with testicular fortitude to perform their duties impartially. Until next week, God’s willing!
