PM Harris Responds To 43-Page Document About Stopping Vaccination Programme In SKN

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 23rd April 2021)- St.Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris has labelled “fake news” a 43-page document  circulating via social media addressed to him from the International Tribunal related to an order to  “cease and desist” COVID vaccinations, dated 18th March 2021.

A statement published by the government’s media outlet SKNIS (St.Kitts Information Services) on Wednesday 21st April 2021 highlighted his response on this matter which the document claimed was an “emergency injunction.”

Part of the document read: “Pursuant to the Tribunal’s final Order of November 29, 2020 and its Universal Jurisdiction under Natural and Common Law, under articles 6 and 7 of the International Criminal Court Statute banning Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity, and under 18 USC 1091.”

According to PM Harris: “We have no matter before the ICC neither are we a party to any matter therefore no judgment nor order can be given with regard to St.Kitts-Nevis. The Benavides of the purported ICC document currently in circulation on social media has yet to be confirmed. The office of the Prime Minister is not in receipt of or has officially been made aware of any document related to this matter. Further, the World Health Organisation, the relevant international body which oversees all health- related matters in the UN has approved the use and administering of the AstraZeneca vaccine since April 2021.”

He continued: “It must be highlighted that the document in circulation speaks to a judgment or order in November 2020 at a time when no country in the hemisphere was engaged in any COVID-19 vaccination programme. This significantly diminishes the credibility of the purported document. I would encourage all to check and verify before accepting as facts, these types of information being peddled in this era of fake news.”

Police Concern Over Normal Partying During COVID-19

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 23rd April 2021)-“We continue to see complacency setting in, and persons getting a false sense of health security. We see this happening very frequently at parties, bars and other similar social activities.”
Such was reported by member of the COVID-19 National Task Force Superintendent Cromwell Henry when he spoke at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) COVID-19 Briefing held on Wednesday 21st April 2021.

He reminded members of the public that COVID-19 “remains a health threat to the Federation.”In addressing concern over the nature of interactions at social events, he went on to say: “These types of events and their very nature facilitate very easy spread of the virus should someone who is infected be present. Persons in these environments do not wear masks, they do not observe physical distancing, they do not practice good hand hygiene. Instead, they interact dangerously close with other persons who are not from their circle.

“Somehow persons are of the notion that everyone who enters the country are in quarantine so it is ok to socialize and ignore the protocols. While we do our best to ensure that persons who should be in quarantine are in fact in quarantine,  we’ve had instances in the past and some of these instances were well publicized  where persons whom we considered high risk found themselves socializing at crowded events,” Cromwell added.

Furthermore, he called on all individuals to do their part in helping to keep the country safe. “We continue our best to keep the country safe. However, we need you to be responsible by doing your part to help us keep us all safe. All that we are asking is that you follow the basic protocols that are prescribed in the COVID-19 regulations and they have kept us safe thus far. We have asked when in public avoid crowds and crowded events, practice good hand hygiene and maintain physical distance of six feet from others persons.”

Cromwell, encouraged individuals to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

“We are now in the vaccination phase of our journey to full opening or near normalcy. We encourage all to take advantage of this opportunity to be vaccinated and do your part to ensure that we have a safe and prosperous country.”

As of Wednesday 21st April, there were 44 recovered COVID-19 patients and zero in isolation along with 13,526 persons tested for the virus, 7869 released from quarantine, 229 released from quarantine and 3 in pre approved quarantine at home.

Dr. Terrance Drew Starts CARE Foundation

By: Spokesman Newsroom

BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Tuesday 20th April 2021)-Well-Known community activist and medical practitioner specialized in Internal Medicine Dr. Terrance Drew has officially launched a non-profit charitable organization called the  CARE Foundation (Compassionate Action to Reach and Empower) of which he is the founder.

Held under the theme ‘We are Stronger When We CARE’, a ceremony was held on Saturday 17th April 2020 at Carambola Beach Club located at the South East Peninsula.

Dr. Drew shared an experience which helped to inspire his commitment to serve having seen an elderly woman trapped in her house near a running ghaut in his childhood community of Upper Monkey Hill, St. Peter’s.

“All of us have stories that we will never ever forget. I can never ever forget that 80-year- old in a little wooden house screaming for help and the ambulance could not pass because the ghaut was running and the bridge was damaged and then some men rushed to the house…getting over the ghaut into that house to get her to the hospital.  I thought then that she deserved better and that she deserved. That to a great extent inspired in me my commitment to serve the best I can  and to ask others  to give of themselves and the best of themselves so that as a community, as a country and as humanity in general that together we can overcome the difficulties that we face and so that story is etched in my soul and you have your own stories that are etched in your souls but I think there’s a common humanity or common stream of stories that connect us all and those stories really pull at us to say always seek to give  and to give the best that you can,” he highlighted.

The five (5) main pillars of the organization are: Poverty Alleviation, Disaster Response, Health, Wellness and Nutrition Empowerment & Education and Community Enhancement.

Dr. Drew said when he first conceptualized the establishment of the CARE Foundation, never would he have “imagined or anticipated how quickly and strongly so many of you and what a diverse group of you would have immediately connected and aligned with the vision and expressed your support financially and materially to our cause.”

“This has been a very humbling experience and an incredibly affirming one as well,” he added.

According to Dr. Drew, the launch of the CARE Foundation will mark a defining moment in our national story.

“It will mark the day when a movement spread kindness, love and light throughout our Federation. It will mark the day, when the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, as sampled here in this audience and those watching online, decided that they will not be defeated by all the national challenges but they will be inspired and empowered.”

The other members on the Board of Councillors of the CARE Foundation are Ms.Nerys Dockery (President)  Anthony Johnson ( Secretary), Mr. Jonathan Bass, Dr. Christine Walwyn, Mr. Dominic Stephens, Ms. Lauretta Evelyn, Ms. Lanein Blanchette, Ms. Mary Clarke and Ms. Kelvina Salters.

The C.A.R.E. Foundation is fully described to be a non- sectarian, non-profit charitable organization that was established on February 22, 2021.

Furthermore, it is said to be a humanitarian organization focused on community outreach across St. Kitts and Nevis to do good and to serve wherever there is a need.

Scientist calls ‘dotish’ action of man who climbed erupting volcano

Updated: 19 Apr 2021 Source: www.iwnsvg.com

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent (CMC) — The lead scientist monitoring La Soufrière volcano, Professor Richard Robertson, Monday described as “dotish” (stupid) and not an act of bravery, the decision by a man to climb the erupting volcano on Sunday.

“It is absolutely foolish… it is absolutely dotish to do that. People talk about bravery  and to me somebody is brave when you are aware of the risks that you put yourself through because of some positive job or they need to contribute to society in a fundamental way and you still take the action to save your family or something like that,” Robertson told listeners to the state-owned NBC Radio.

“So you are aware of the risk. You know you could be killed or you know you could be hurt but you still do it. That’s a brave person. A brave person is not somebody who goes up to the mountain, putting themselves and their parties at risk and the people who might have to rescue them,” the volcanologist added.

A video has been circulating on social media showing the man, later identified as a “our guide”, going to the summit of the volcano which has been erupting since April 9 and has forced the evacuation of more than 16,000 people in the Red Zone area.

In the video, the person is seen, without a face mask, taking video selfies at the smoldering crater and describing the scene, while a strong wind blows, and steam rises from the cauldron.

He also captures video of a person climbing.

Robertson said that person “is not brave; to me that person is just simply dotish.

“I would suggest that action like that is not sensible. At this time I think for me, people in St. Vincent need to be brave, be brave to what we have to face. We have to face a country in which we will have tremendous devastation because of the volcano

“We have to be very brave to face the circumstances. If we want to live in this land that is really beautiful, we have to deal with the volcano, we have to deal with the hazards. You have to be brave to protect your family that is brave.

“Going up the mountain at this point in time where you could be killed or where you could get people with you killed or you could inspire people who saw you that is a sensible thing to do the same thing, that is not brave, that is dotish, that is what I would call it. I am sorry if I offend anybody with that type of language,” he told radio listeners.

On Sunday, the volcano continued its pattern of explosions with the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies (UWI), saying that the episode of continuous seismic tremor generated by explosive activity at La Soufriere, lasted until about 9 p.m. (local time/Atlantic Standard Time).

In its latest bulletin, the SRC said that following this, small long-period and hybrid earthquakes started to be recorded again, at a rate similar to before the explosive activity.  It said that this rate dropped significantly during the early hours of Monday.

“No volcano-tectonic earthquakes were recorded in the last 12 hours.  One rockfall was recorded, at 1:39 a.m. Rockfalls can be generated by a growing lava dome, but this cannot be confirmed without visual observations,” the SRC said, noting that the continuous GPS (Global Positioning System) network has shown a change in horizontal and vertical movement since the initial depressurization noted immediately following the April 9 explosive phase.

It said that the continuous GPS network is used to track changes in ground shape on and around the volcano.  As magma moves beneath the volcano, changes in pressure cause the volcano to change shape (inflate/deflate).

“These changes may suggest magma influx from deep within the sub-volcanic system, however more investigation is needed to confirm this interpretation,” the SRC said, adding, “the volcano continues to erupt. Its pattern of seismic activity over the last few days is typical of the growth and destruction of lava domes”.

Robertson told radio listeners that the volcano in its current state can erupt explosively without warning.

“Anyone on the volcano at the time is at risk of dying horribly from blunt trauma to the body, from excessive burns, and from asphyxiation. Anyone at the summit as you were today will certainly be killed if it has one of the kinds of eruptions that it had on the very same day that you visited.

“Stop putting yourself, your co-hikers, and potentially the search and rescue team that would come to get you if something happens. This is neither brave or useful but simply dotish.”

‘Caring Dad’ Final Moments Of Homicide Victim Remembered

BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Friday 16th April 2021)- “Even up to his final moments, his thoughts and concerns  were not of himself but that of his children and  their well-being.”

Such was part of the recollection of 38-year-old Keon Fyfield of Newton as read from his formal remembrance (eulogy) at his funeral held on at the Wesley Methodist Church Seaton Street in Basseterre on Thursday 8th April 2021.

A Dear Daddy message published in the funeral booklet included the following words: “ You were a big part of our lives. Maybe God was ready for you to go but not us.”

“Most if not all of us here this afternoon would have known Keon in a variety of roles -son, brother, nephew, cousin, father, mentor  and great friend but it is the role of father that brought the most joy and happiness to his life. Becoming a father to [names of his five children called]…was his greatest accomplishment . He had a special relationship with all his children not showing any favouritism  for either one  but continually expressing his love  to them in a manner which best suits their needs and personality,” it was also said about the deceased.

Additionally, “Keon was not much for words but his actions and that smile that can light up a room spoke a thousand words and left you feeling the abundance of love  that he had for his family  and close friends and for that he will truly be missed.”

The deceased’s determination in life was also praised.

“Throughout his journey from adolescence to childhood, Keon was never one to be fearful of experiencing all that life had to offer even though at times the struggles of life  would have thrown him some stumbling blocks, his determination to succeed  was an inspiration to all who genuinely  knew, loved and appreciated him.”

A police press release issued some six days after Fyfield’s burial (14th April) indicated that two brothers from the Stapleton community have been charged with his murder.

They are 22-year-old Dijon Trotman and 21-year-old Divon Trotman.

As reported, Dijon  was charged on April 12, and Divon was charged on April 13; both of whom are in police custody.

“The incident occurred on March 07, 2021. Keon Fyfield had been warded at the JNF General Hospital from that date until his death on March 25,” police say.

Via a first police press release dated April 03, 2021,  it was informed that an autopsy was performed on the body of  Keon Fyfield on March 29th  by Resident Pathologist, Dr. Adrian Nuñez who “concluded that death was a result of pulmonary embolism due to prolonged bed rest as a consequence of severe head trauma with cerebral concussion.”

It was also stated that the “Police are investigating the matter.”

Shawn Richards Says 2025 Leadership Plan Is Irreversible

BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Friday 16th April 2021)- Re-elected Political Leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and St.Kitts-Nevis’ Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards has indicated that the course for his party’s future leadership of the Federation “has been mapped out for 2025 and it is irreversible.”

He was at the time speaking at PAM’s 55th Convention held on the afternoon of Sunday 18th April 2021 in Sandy Point  under the theme ‘Preparing Now For The Future’ at a recreational ground facility.

Richards’ speech saw him officially placing his bid to become the next prime minister and the first one from Sandy Point following the next general elections, constitutionally due in the year 2025.

That morning, he was re-elected unopposed at the party’s caucus whereby a new executive committee was installed.

Notably, PAM currently has the most seats of the Team Unity coalition government holding four while the People’s Labour Party (PLP) led by Dr. Timothy Harris, now in his second term as prime minister, has two and the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) of Nevis has three.

“After 56 years, PAM has to look at itself in the mirror  and determine its future. Michael Jackson once said ‘I am starting with the man in the mirror’. The change, therefore, must start at the top before it shifts to the boundaries below. I cannot argue against the suggestion that the change should begin now, and that while making that change, I am reminded that the former US President Abraham Lincoln once said: ‘that you must be sure  to put your feet in the right place  then stand firm,” Richards stated.

He continued: “As your political leader, I am prepared to make changes because to lead, I must also know how to follow. The former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill  once said politics is not a game but a serious business…So if you examine my actions carefully, you would recognise  that I follow the establishment by Lincoln …I have planted my feet in the right place  and I stood firm nor did I play games with anyone . You know my slogan in number five  has always been  ‘No Gimmicks, No Tricks’.Therefore on the matter of future leadership of St.Kitts and Nevis, there is no need for alarm or concern. That course has been mapped out for 2025 and it is irreversible.Nevermind the recent outburst about three terms and leadership  because commitments are made to be honoured and there should be no fear of departure for political expediency.”

The PAM leader remarked that after the last general elections in 2020, he understood that there were strong voices expressing sentiments for a new direction to be taken with respect to the leadership of this country, and also unfounded rumours that were allowed to flourish and were even encouraged  but I was able to remain planted in my core principles of honesty, reliability and trust…For me trust was the anchor that kept me tied to all of the commitments that I have made and when I make a commitment I stand by it- No Gimmicks , No Tricks.

Giving an outlook on PAM’s future, Richards had this to say: “Therefore when I tell you today that the future is looking bright for PAM believe me. When I tell you that the  future for St.Kitts and Nevis is also looking bright believe me and so now when I tell you that after the next general elections, there will emerge the first Prime Minister from Sandy Point also believe me….and so in that regard, I also want to say to my Cabinet colleagues  that come the next election, I expect your full support for Shawn to be the next prime minister.”

Furthermore, in speaking about Prime Minister Dr.Timothy Harris, he pointed out that “ just as he became the third prime minister of this country, it is my intention to be the fourth prime minister of this country. Just as he became the first prime minister from Tabernacle, I intend to be the first prime minister from Sandy Point.”

According to Richards: “My guiding principle as a future leader of this country is to maintain hope and to strengthen the father of each citizen. For us as  a party we have to remember that for us preparing now for the future comes with many responsibilities. It means we are ready to lead but in leading  we must remember that we lead not for ourselves but for the people.”

The other members of the PAM executive committee following its 2021 caucus are: Deputy Leaders Lindsay Grant and Eugene Hamilton(Parliamentary Representatives for Constituencies Four and Eight respectively),Chairman Jonel Powell (Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Two),Deputy Chairperson Danielle Warner, General Secretary Natasha Grey, Assistant General Secretary  Azard Gumbs Treasurer  Charles Morton and Public Relations Officer Delwayne Delaney.

Notably, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PAM did not host a convention in 2020.
