BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 4th March 2022) — Chairman of the COVID-19 National Task Force Abdias Samuel is calling on quarantined individuals not to abuse the ease of restrictions under a shorter period and without paid security officers on guard. Three Cabinet-approved changes to health and travel protocols became effective March 1st, 2022. The first will see quarantine for unvaccinated nationals reduced from nine days to seven, completable at home without a paid security facility.

“Yes, there will not be a monitoring system. So we will not put any bracelet on you, we’re not going to put anyone to hunt you down. However, here is the reality: The penalties are still in existence if you break quarantine. Therefore, I am appealing to all individuals not to abuse this easing of this particular restriction,” Samuel stated.

The second change allows entry with no quarantine for persons coming in with any of five specific vaccines — Abdala, Soberana 2, Soberana Plus, Medigen, and Sputnik V — which have not yet received WHO emergency use listing. Persons carrying these vaccines from Cuba, Taiwan, or Russia will be allowed to enter without quarantine. The third change allows persons in the Federation who make short trips to neighbouring islands — returning within 24 hours without overnighting — to re-enter by completing the KNA travel form and submitting a negative COVID test done prior to departure. These travellers will be flagged for 24-hour quarantine until their negative result is returned upon arrival.
