BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 7th April 2021) — The Bank of Nevis officially opened its first branch in St. Kitts’ capital of Basseterre on Tuesday 6th April 2021, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at premises formerly owned by Royal Bank of Canada on Fort Street near The Circus. The opening marks a milestone for the institution, which was founded in 1985 by the late Premier of Nevis and National Hero Sir Simeon Daniel with starting share capital of $250,000 (XCD).

Marketing Officer Phéon T. Jones said: “This means that the profits will stay within the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Our profits will be reinvested into you, the great people of St. Kitts and Nevis.” He noted that BON had donated $15,000 to the Nevis Island Administration in the fight against COVID-19 and pledged to implement similar community initiatives in St. Kitts.

Premier Brantley described the Bank of Nevis as “a quintessential Nevisian institution” which has grown from five employees at its founding in 1985 to over 140 staff members, with an asset base of over $1.5 billion (XCD). He described Tuesday’s opening as “the culmination of a long-held dream of the late great Simeon Daniel who saw great things happening.” Lady Sheila Daniel, widow of the late Premier, was on hand to cut the ribbon.

General Manager L. Everette Martin highlighted the bank’s roots: “Over 35 years ago, the first Premier of Nevis and National Hero, the Right Excellent Sir Simeon Daniel established the Bank of Nevis Limited. The bank was created out of a desire to improve the quality of life for the people of Nevis.” The Bank of Nevis offers ATM services, online banking, brokerage services, merchant services and foreign exchange. BON has also since acquired the Royal Bank of Canada and RBTT operations on Nevis.
