BASSETERRE (Tuesday 24th March 2021) — Medical Chief of Staff Dr. Cameron Wilkinson addressed concerns about healthcare at the Joseph N. France General Hospital, including x-ray services and medication supply. He confirmed x-ray machines are down due to malfunction of two parts, but said one part is already on island and the second is expected within a week. Three digital and one non-digital portable x-ray machines are available as backup. He clarified there is no issue with ultrasound — the hospital has three portable and one stationary machine. He said the hospital dispensary is adequately stocked, and that the resident nephrologist Dr. Salazar is on vacation (not departed), and is expected to return within 30 days. Virtual consultative sessions between Dr. Salazar and in-house doctors have ensured continuity of patient care.
