Trade Union Recognises Women In Nursing, Manufacturing

BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (FRIDAY, 9th MARCH, 2018)-Under the theme ‘Celebrating the Strength of the Woman In You’, yesterday (Thursday) the St.Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union held its first annual Union Awards Luncheon at the Ocean Terrace Inn located at Fortlands, recognising nurses of the Federation and Union women in manufacturing.

The first set of awardees in inaugural are as follows:

St.Kitts Nurses Association– Novillia Rawlins Nwosu and Davida Irish

Nevis Nurses Association– Hildred Somerall and Jeneive Liburd

Harowe Servo Plant-Vellie Wooadley and Yvette Francis

Carib Brewery-Mary Rogers, Anette DeGuire and Vida Warner

In his remarks, Union President Joseph O’Flaherty applauded the awardees of the two particular sectors spotlighted at the inaugural event.

“This year, as the first such awards luncheon of the Union, our focus is on nurses and the honouring of Union women involved in manufacturing. These are two of the most critical areas in which women make a significant contribution to the health and economic well-being of people in our nation.

O’Flaherty added: And while we take this day to honour just a few women of outstanding qualities, understand that there are hundreds of women in this country making a substantial contribution to nation building. To these women, also, we say thank you and encourage you to continue the good work.

The 2018 theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Press For Progress’.
