BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (FEBRUARY 2018): A Glock 34 pistol and a Smith and Wesson.38, and a quantity of vegetable material, suspected to be cannabis, were seized by officers of Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department, on Monday 12th February at the Robert L Bradshaw International Airport.
The illegal items were discovered in a package that arrived via courier service.
The vegetable like material weighed approximately one pound.
A statement from the police outlined that “Increasing the number of firearms taken off the streets is one of several goals the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) set for itself. This would also include preventing firearms from getting into the hands of those who try to smuggle them into the country.”
It further read: “The Police are also committed to removing drugs from our communities. However, meeting these goals would not be possible without strategic partnerships. The Police intend to meet these goals by collaborating with other agencies, which is one of six crucial areas that were identified to guide their efforts.”
Up to press time, the authorities had not indicated if anyone has been arrested or questioned in relation to the find.
The find brings the total number of firearms removed off the street to three (3) for the year 2018.
