BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Tuesday 17th October 2023)- Well-known community activist, trade unionist and businessman Mr. Stanley Franks Jr. passed away on Tuesday 17th October, 2023. He has served as General Secretary and Treasurer of the longstanding workers’ representative organisation, the St.

KittsNevis Trades and Labour Union (SKNT&LU). SKNT&LU General Secretary Precious Mills says Mr. Franks was a very resourceful and knowledgeable individual. “It has been a privilege having known Mr. Franks over the years as a colleague.

I highly respected his openness, knowledge and advice on the various topics we would discuss. He had been in the union for decades and so he would have had a lot of experience and wealth of knowledge to offer.” She added: “As a young trade unionist, I really appreciate the guidance and encouragement he offered in helping me function effectively in my role.

I respected the fact also that he sought to get my views on topics of interests relating to the union which demonstrated his thoughtfulness and inclusive interaction though an elder in the field.” Mills recalled that oftentimes Mr. Franks would stop by the office to get updates and that he was always willing to take a call to discuss matters.

“He is definitely missed but I can honestly say that he has inspired my growth and interest in the organisation and so I will always cherish that bond we had and more so be encouraged to serve to the best of my ability in whatever future endeavours I pursue.” In April 2023, both Franks and Mills appeared on WINN FM’s ‘Island Tea’ as a promotional appearance pertaining to the SKNT&LU’s participation on the occasion of International Workers Day (Labour Day).
