BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Tuesday 10th October 2023)- Dubbed the ‘Safe Circle Session’, well-known local author of ‘Lifting the Weight of Miscarriage’ Jihan Williams-Knight has informed about an upcoming event being put on in observance of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, slated to take place on Sunday 15th October 2023 at the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC) conference room, starting at 7:00 PM.

She made the disclosure while speaking on Freedom FM’s ‘Issues’ Programme on Tuesday 10th October 2023 while promoting the “October is a lot of things Breast cancer Month, Mental Health Awareness month but right in the middle of all of that is pregnancy and infant loss Awareness Month. “On the 15th is the actual day when the events are held in honour of person who have been through the experience of pregnancy loss and to recognize and acknowledge the babies that have been lost as well.

So, I know from statistics…we assume that there is a lot more women-far more common than we would want to acknowledge who go through pregnancy loss and so I thought that it was about time that we had an event where we could recognize those people and try to find out how people can be supported, what do people need, if persons feel like they have nobody to talk to we introduce them to resources where they can get that level of help if they’ve been through that experience,” She stated. In relation to the target audience, she expressed: “We are very very clear about this-women and men.

So even if a man wants to come on his own, he’s welcomed to come as well.” Williams-Knight said she wants people to feel comfortable at the Safe Circle Session. “I want people to come comfortable… literally dress comfortably, walk with your yoga mat and blanket if you feel more comfortable lying down on the ground or sitting down on the ground; if that’s what you’re into, we leave space for that.

We’re going to talk about the experience. What it feels like, what do we wish people had known, what kind of support we think that we needed for people in our circumstance, and of course there will also be a presentation Mrs.

Michelle Delacoudray-Blake from the National Counseling Center to offer profession guidance on how to cope with grief.” According to her, at 7:00PM at the event, we’re going to participate in the International Wave of Light. “It literally is a commitment for persons who have been through pregnancy loss to simply light a candle in honour of the babies that they’ve lost.

We will also give persons the opportunity to say their baby’s name out loud which might be seen as something significant but when people have been telling you to move on… You weren’t pregnant for that long – people diminish the experience but it’s a baby to you and mayb you had already named the baby – LOCAL NEWS – and everything so we give you the opportunity to speak that baby’s name out loud… ‘ As understood, candle will be kept lit for an hour and continue with the sharing and supporting session.
