BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 8th June 2023)- General Secretary of the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union (SKNT&LU) Precious Mills is among the delegates representing St. Kitts and Nevis at the 111th ILO (International Labour Organization) Conference being hosted in Geneva, Switzerland at the organization’s headquarters.
A total of 187 ILO member state countries are taking part in the conference which began on Monday 5th June and is scheduled to close on Friday16th June. The various delegations each have representative for workers, employers and government from their respective countries.
Others for Team St. Kitts-Nevis include Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour Denise Daniel, Labour Officer Jeneve Mills as well as the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Executive Director Kevin Hope, as part of a tripartite make-up.
The SKNT&LU representative, in speaking about the experience, stated: “It has definitely been a learning experience at this work conference. So far, I have had the opportunity to attend a number of Workers meetings which feature many other trade unions representatives from around the world.
Topics being covered include and ‘Just Transition’ ‘Labour Protection’ and ‘Apprenticeship.’ It is a good feeling being in a setting like this which aims to improve the social dialogue relationship among workers, employers and governments.” Precious Mills thanked members of her executive body for having nominated her to represent the union as the Workers’ delegate to the conference. “I am really happy for this opportunity.
The work of the union is serious business, and it is an honour to be doing my part in strengthening this organization which was established in 1940. I want workers to truly understand that being a part of the SKNT&LU membership creates an avenue for all of us to be the change that we want to see as it relates to seeing to the interests and rights of all workers.
