NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (January 19, 2023) — The following is an announcement from the Culturama Secretariat in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) regarding registration for Culturama 49 contests. The Culturama Secretariat hereby informs the general public that registration is now open for the following competitions that would be held as part of Culturama 49 which would be celebrated from July 27th to August 8th, 2023. 1.
Ms. Culture Queen Pageant 2. Ms. Culture Swimwear Contest 3. Mr. Kool Contest 4. Mr. and Ms. Talented Youth Pageant 5. Soca Monarch Contest 6. Junior and Senior Kaiso Contests 7. Emancipation J’ouvert 8. Road March 9. Junior and Senior Street Parades Registration forms can be collected from the Culturama Secretariat in the Cotton Ginnery Mall, Charlestown or they can be downloaded from the Nevis Culturama Festival website, www. culturamanevis. com.
Completed registration forms MUST be returned to the Culturama Secretariat on or before the deadline dates stated on the registration forms or emailed to: thesecretariat@culturamanevis. com. Sanitize / Wear Your Mask / Wash Your Hands – REGIONAL NEWS 13 The Recycle OECS initiative will be executed through a joint venture with Seureca, the Consulting and Engineering division of Veolia – a world leader in optimized resource management such as energy, waste recovery, and recycling – and Unite Caribbean Limited, a Development Cooperation consulting firm that promotes social, environmental, cultural, and economic development through cooperation and regional technical support.
Execution of the project will include: Carrying out an assessment of relevant initiatives that deal with solid waste management, thereafter, developing an OECS model system for plastic waste collection and transport. Identifying two countries for demonstration of the OECS model system.
Structuring the collection of all types of plastic in two demonstration countries; and Structuring of plastic export chains and processing them in the Caribbean zone. Tackling plastic pollution is critical for environmental sustainability, human health, and the economic viability of major sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and fishing; mainstays of the economy of many OECS Member states.
The Recycle OECS Project is part of a broader regional initiative with the European Union, which seeks to build on work being done on waste management and the Blue Economy in OECS Member States at the national and regional levels.
