CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS, August 31, 2022 (MMS-SKN) — The Nevis Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) Limited, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, on Tuesday August 30 continued with its year-long monthly presentation of care packages to members, this month honouring four longstanding business partners. The Nevis Co-operative Credit Union, the oldest credit union in the Federation having been registered on July 25, 1972, is celebrating under the theme ‘Consistency, Financial Security & Serving the Community — 50 years of Development and Prosperity.’ The four business partners honoured were Mr R. Stedroy Pemberton of Tip Top Construction of Hanley’s Road Gingerland, Ms Jean Kelly of Octagon Bar on Samuel Hunkins Drive Charlestown, Mr Meredith Hendrickson of Hendrickson’s Construction Services of Webb’s Ground Gingerland, and Mr Malvern Jeffers of Just Relax Charters of St. Thomas Parish.
Mr Pemberton, a member for 36 years, said: “The credit union is an excellent partner in my business. The credit union stands with the ordinary persons to make sure that they have a foothold in what they are doing.” Ms Kelly, in business for 30 years and a member for over 20, said: “I love the Credit Union because of their discipline plus they always have their members’ back.” Mr Hendrickson, in business for 55 years, recalled: “I remember very early in the 80s the lady Mrs Hanley came looking for people to join the Credit Union. They have been supporting me, including offering loans to build my house and to buy a piece of land.” An emotional Mr Jeffers said: “I was here, after going to different banks to ask for assistance but not knowing that the Credit Union was the one that would continue to work with me. My business is Just Relax Charters, which does boating and taking guests out fishing. It has been a very wonderful time working with the Credit Union and for helping me get the loan for purchasing that boat.”
