BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Sunday 7th August 2022) — After seven years in opposition, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) won the majority of votes in the August 2022 general election, taking 6 out of 8 seats on St. Kitts, beating the People’s Labour Party (PLP) and the People’s Action Movement (PAM) at the polls. SKNLP Leader Dr. Terrance Drew of Constituency Eight won by a massive margin, amassing 2,950 votes to PLP’s Andrew ‘Talbo’ Bass (761 votes) and PAM’s Chesley Hamilton (895 votes). Outgoing PM Dr. Timothy Harris of PLP was the only PLP candidate to win his seat in Constituency Seven with 1,266 votes against SKNLP’s Leon Natta-Nelson (903 votes) and Lincoln David-Pelle (176 votes).
Other SKNLP winners: Dr. Geoffrey Hanley (Constituency 1 — East Basseterre); Marsha Henderson (Constituency 2 — Central Basseterre); Konris Maynard (Constituency 3 — West Basseterre); Samal Duggins (Constituency 4); Dr. Denzil Douglas (Constituency 6 — with 1,926 votes against PAM’s Troy Flanders with 98, PLP’s Dr. Marc Williams with 309 and independent Carlton Dupont with 3). PAM Leader Shawn Richards regained his seat in Constituency 5 with 2,093 votes against SKNLP’s Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Douglas (825) and PLP’s Stachio Williams (243). On Nevis, the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) beat the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) for all three seats contested.
