February 4, 2021 — The Caribbean Development Bank has awarded US$50,000 in grant funding to two film and animation entities: Saint Lucia’s Malfini Film and Animation Studio (US$25,000) and Trinidad and Tobago’s Forward Ever Foundation (US$25,000). Malfini will use its grant to develop collaborative capacity between studios in Jamaica, Martinique and Saint Lucia, providing training in 2D and 3D animation and videography. The Forward Ever Foundation will develop a Creative Industries Incubator to improve the socio-economic status of at-risk youth from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and St. Lucia, targeting up to 100 trainees. The grants came under the CDB’s Cultural and Creative Industries Innovation Fund (CIIF), which was established in 2018.
