FEDERATION CELEBRATES BIRTH OF SECOND INDEPENDENCE 35 HEALTHY BABY

0

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 21, 2018 (SKNIS): Following on the heels of the birth of bouncing baby girl, Anais Perez, who was born on the nation’s 35th Independence Day, on September 19, 2018, at the Joseph Nathaniel France (JNF) General Hospital, another healthy baby was delivered at the health institution at 12:22 pm on the same day, this time, a boy, Dylan Abdiel Florian. His proud parents are mother, Meydelin Moria and father, Alexi Florian.

As per tradition, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris visited the Maternity Ward of the JNF Hospital after the Independence Day Ceremonial Parade at Warner Park to greet any baby born on that day and his or her parents. This year, Prime Minister Harris, along with Minister of State with Responsibility for Health, Senator the Honourable Wendy Phipps, visited the hospital and were delighted that baby Anais Perez was delivered to Lime Kiln couple Alisha Perez and Jorge Perez at 5:07 am. At the time of the visit by the head of government and the health minister, baby Dylan Abdiel Florian had not yet been born.

Following custom, both babies will receive two presentations from the Office of the Prime Minister as part of the Independence celebrations.

While at the hospital, Prime Minister Harris said he wished to see more involvement by fathers in their children’s lives while he made a symbolic gesture.

“I presented the young baby to the father because we have had too many absent fathers in the lives of our young children and so today he (Jorge Perez) is taking a stand which we would like all fathers to do and follow the example to be involved in the lives and the developing and nurturing of our young people from the very start,” the Prime Minister said.

Locals, Residents Show off Patriotism With Advice

By: Precious Mills

BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Friday 22nd September 2018)- Year after year for the observance of Independence Day here in the federation of St.Kitts and Nevis, many locals and residents alike enjoy wearing patriotic outfits for the occasion.

This time around for the 35th annual celebrations, it was no different as many people wore different styles of clothing showing off nationalistic pride and appreciation.

On Wednesday 19th September, this reporter interacted with a few people during and after the annual Independence Day parade held at Warner Park Cricket Stadium.

Participants were asked to comment on the significance of the occasion and also to share a patriotic message with others.

This reporter wishes to publicly thank all the participants who took the time out to partake in the nationalistic-styled interview.

Here is what they had to say:

Felicite Caines

I love celebrating Independence Day mostly because this is when you see a lot of people showcasing the patriotic aspect of the country and the way in which they love the country. It’s surprising see a lot of people at the parade this year because two year ago, it wasn’t so much people but it’s good to see a lot of people today. To know that we are independent for 35years; I wasn’t even born as yet but it’s so great to see that our little country is independent and we don’t have to really depend on anyone.
We should always have pride in our country. We should always love our country and show patriotism to our country wearing any of the colours red, green, black, white or yellow-all of them symbolise something so just remember that you are from St.Kitts-Nevis and everywhere that you go to remember that our flag is a great flag that should be showcased.

Pastor Euclid Osborne

Independence is a freedom, a relief from what we used to have many years back. It is the freedom to form our own government without calling on what we used to called crown (authority) and now we can call our own prime minister and other ministers of government without having to go to England and it’s a nice feeling having our own armed forces and other areas as well. All of that is what independence means to me.
I would say to persons to do their very best to do whatever they can to promote our country be it skills, education or other to push our country forward.

Andy, Kelsey and Nikki (medical students residing on St.Kitts)

I really like the way the people come out and show their spirit with all the St.Kitts flags and flag shirts. It reminds me of back home because we have a lot of spirit in America and especially Texas; that’s where we’re from- Texas but yeah it’s really nice to see everybody celebrating together and coming together as one. Keep unity; right now it’s kind of a struggle in America with unity but right now obviously we’re keeping it together and I just hope that everybody can stay on the same page as far as just wanting to live and be happy and love each other. -Andy

Cutie

I am the only patriotic display lady that St.Kitts-Nevis got. For years I’ve been putting in my national flag design hairstyles for years and nobody ever come and tell me that I’ve been doing a good job or put me in a newspaper. People from Brabados, St. Martin and St. Lucia I have paper clippings from people who come back and show me my hairstyles in magazines and St.Kitts never do something like that but that doesn’t stop me. You ain’t see how I look?!; My shoes came from England specially for this occasion. You see anyone else in a St.Kitts-Nevis leggings?! I have a lot of St.Kitts-Nevis clothes! I have other items like earrings and bags.
This is 35 years. ‘Love, Service, Patriotism and Pride, Independence 35’ is the theme for this year and I love my country very much and I am very patriotic and that’s why I come out in all my glory today.
Yesterday when I came to town, I’ve never seen St.Kitts like that yet; a lot of people-even children-wearing shirts. I thought it would not have gotten anybody in shirts today because the amount of people I saw including people going to work in their colours but I guess because it’s 35 and they want it to be big and then in the park, I come all the time and it has never been so full out. In there was so full; it was amazing.
I love my independence celebrations and I would stay coming to look at the Independence Parade as long as I’m alive. To other nationals, I would say: Don’t stop loving your country because other places have worse problems so you just have to stick with your country and love your people.

Destiny (who spoke with permission by her grandmother)
Happy Independence Day everybody! I feel good dressing up in my Independence Day colours.

Such information has been released by the Police Public Relations Department on the heels of an article by the opposition St.Kitts-Nevis Labour Party levelling claims of victimisation.

Police say officer Hodge was charged for Driving Without a Valid and Unexpired Driver’s License and for Driving Without Insurance.

Reportedly, he was driving a privately owned vehicle at the time of the incident.

He is expected to appear before the Basseterre Magistrate Court today (Friday).

Additionally, he will face disciplinary action as well.

Police say that further, as in all cases when an officer is charged with an offence and put before the Court, Constable Hodge is also expected to be suspended from duty with half pay until the matter is disposed of at the Court.

Opposition Suggests Police Officer Arrested Through Victimisation Targeting

By: Spokesman Newsroom

BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Thursday 20th September 2018)- Information coming from a web source affiliated with the opposition St.Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) is suggesting that an off-duty police officer, Lennox Hodge, has been arrested for some type of offense which has been fueled by victimisation due to the close relationship he has with the immediate past prime minister and opposition leader Dr. Denzil Douglas.

The incident allegedly took place on Independence Day (Wednesday 19th September) after the officer would have escorted Dr. Douglas to the annual ceremonial parade held at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.

BREAKING NEWS!!!! POLICE OFFICER UNLAWFULLY ARRESTED!!!!

Officer Lennox Hodge of the Royal St. Christopher & Nevis Police Force has just been arrested!

Hodge is customarily seen at the side of the leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition Rt. Hon. Dr Denzil Douglas, a legal choice of his that has caused him much undue harassment on the job on numerous occasions.

On the Federation’s Independence Day, yesterday September 19th, Hodge who was off-duty, attended the ceremonial parade with Dr Douglas by choice. It is suspected that his personal decision to do so greatly angered the Minister of National Security Dr Timothy Harris who appears to have in play a silent mission to isolate Dr Douglas so that all manner of ill may befall him and have any such event labelled as just another incident of crime in the country.

As the leader of the Opposition and a former Prime Minister, Dr Douglas is entitled to a bodyguard. However, in line with Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris’ vindictive, spiteful and lawless nature, the coalition administration has refused to assign Dr Douglas a police officer to operate in this capacity for almost four years. On the other end of the spectrum, Dr Harris has assigned to former Prime Minister Sir Kennedy Simmonds both a bodyguard and a chauffeur.

This latest violation of a citizen’s rights as seen in the arrest of Officer Hodge is yet another tactic in the coalition administration’s dark plot against Dr Douglas and the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party. The public should be made aware that this is the third police officer that had a close relationship with Dr Douglas that has been attacked in this year; the first two were Sergeant Dwight Davis and Sergeant Leon ‘Shabba’ Powell. Both Sergeants were gunned down in cold blood within mere months of one another.

We will provide additional details on Officer Hodge’s arrest as they become available.

The Spokesman Newsroom will look into providing further details in a subsequent report.
